Our popular Rye IPA returns as a winter seasonal, with a new twist this season: Our rye is now organic, supplied by Indiana’s own Herr Station Malt.
BBC Rye IPA is a bit lighter and more mild than our Rooftop IPA, but the red rye in the mash adds a nice color and spiciness–and it still packs a punch at 6% ABV and 67 IBU.
Our friend Jeff Evard at Herr Station Malt has created Indiana’s first malting company. Herr Station Malt, in Lebanon, Indiana plans to play an important role in supplying Indiana’s growing craft brewing industry, and Bloomington Brewing Co. was proud to receive a delivery of his first batch of organic Indiana-grown rye.
Evard, who’s long had a passion for sustainable farming practices (along with an agronomy degree from Purdue) is focused on adding value to locally grown and organic grains.
Indiana-grown organic grains are not yet widely available, but projects like Evard’s Herr Station Malt will make those high quality grains more available and will encourage area farmers to adopt more sustainable ag practices.
