5 Reasons Not to Miss This Year’s Big Red Beer Fest

Bloomington Brewing at Big Red Beer Fest

Every October, when most of the beer festival season is behind us, comes one last hurrah, Big Red Beer Fest (BRBF).  Scheduled for Friday, October 11th from 6-9 pm at the Bloomington Convention Center and in its 22nd year, Big Red Beer Fest is always filled with friendly faces, great brews, and some interesting beer festival fashion (beer stein socks, really?).

Socks or not, If you love beer as much as I do, BRBF  is not to be missed. Here are my top 5 reasons:

  1. You’re drinking craft beer for a great cause.  100% of proceeds go to the Boys and Girls Club of Bloomington. This non-profit organization provides educational and recreational activities for kids in Bloomington and Monroe County. The core of their mission is accessibility: for just $20 a year, kids can become club members and have access to a safe after-school environment, healthy snacks, and a multitude of programs led by trained mentors.

  2. This will be the biggest Big Red Beer Fest…ever. This year’s Beer Fest is one night only. Expect a fun and festive crowd as breweries from around the world converge at the Bloomington Convention Center. Over 300 different beers will be served from 80 breweries.

  3. Attend the Java Porter release party! Bloomington Brewing Co. will release our 2013 Java Porter at Big Red Beer Fest. Our fall seasonal is always highly anticipated; a traditional English Porter with cold-brewed Brown County Roasters coffee added during fermentation, Java Porter is beer with a little coffee in it, or coffee with a lot of beer in it. Come and be one of the first to try this year’s batch.

  4. Der Pretzel Wagen will serve pretzel sandwiches. Beer and pretzels together are one of the simplest pleasure combinations that life has to offer. Arrive hungry and enjoy the inspired menu of Der Pretzel Wagon. I’m particularly looking forward to The Big Helga: pastrami, Sierra Nevada Spicy Brown Porter Mustard, swiss and cole slaw on a large Pretzel Bun.

  5. Seriously…you need another reason? I look forward to seeing you there!
